Construction spending increased 0.2 percent in September to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $787.2 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau of the Dept. of Commerce reported yesterday. The September figure is 1.3 percent below the September 2010 estimate of $797.3 billion.

Residential construction rose 0.9 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $228.3 billion in September compared with August.
